University of Akron junior Clayton Murphy finished first in the men’s 1,500 meters at NCAA Division I East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., Saturday.

Murphy finished with a time of 3:43:43 and qualified for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11. The top 12 in each event advanced.

Kent State senior Donovan Tolbert placed eighth and qualified in the triple jump with a best mark of 52-4½. University of Akron junior Michael Ohiembor (50-5¼) did not qualify.

University of Akron freshman Curtis Richardson placed fifth to qualify in the high jump with a best jump of 7-1½. UA freshman Cody Stine also qualified with a best jump of 6-11¾ and an 11th-place finish.

Kent State senior Dior Delophont finished 14th in the women’s triple jump with a best mark of 42-11½ and failed to qualify. University of Akron junior Ariadna Ramos Gandia finished 26th with jump of 41-6½ and also failed to advance.

Senior William Barnes of Kent State finished in 22nd place in the men’s 110-meter hurdles in 15.97 and failed to qualify.
