University of Akron senior center Isaiah Johnson was named Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention on Wednesday.
Johnson is the third player in Akron history to earn AP All-America honors, the first since Romeo Travis in 2007.
Johnson was also named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, first all-team MAC and received first-team National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 14 honors.
Kent State had eight wrestlers named to the 2017 Academic All-MAC team, with juniors Stephen Suglio and Chance Driscoll each being recognized for the third time. Sophomores Devin Nye and Anthony Tutolo were named for the second time, and junior Jerald Spohn, sophomore Isaac Bast and freshmen Tim Rooney and Jared Walker received the honor for the first time.
Track and field
Senior Matt Rowland finished second in the menís pole vault to lead Akron on Day 2 of the Texas Relays in Austin. The Zips are also participating in the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, with Olivia Snyderís fifth-place finish in the discus leading the Zips.
