The University of Akron volleyball team began its weekend road trip with a 3-1 win over host Buffalo on Thursday.

The Zips (6-9, 2-1) won the first set 25-23, lost the second set 18-25 and recovered to win the third set 25-15 and the fourth and deciding set 27-25.

Jessica Kloehn had the game-winning kill off an assist from Emily Weigand, who also set up match point with an assist to Madi Baer to give the Zips a 26-25 lead.

Kayla Gwozdz had 13 kills and Kloehn and Baer each had 10 kills to lead the Zips’ attack. Weigand had 39 assists and Aubrey Kozer had 18 digs for the Zips.

The Zips travel to Toledo on Saturday for a 5 p.m. start.
