The University of Akron will send nine athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9.

Juniors Rodrigo Iglesias and Dara Perry (Firestone) punched their tickets in the men’s javelin and women’s 100-meter hurdles, respectively, on the final day of the NCAA East Prelims hosted by South Florida on Saturday.

Perry edged South Carolina’s Caitlyn Little by one one-hundredths of a second (13.42 to 13.43) to gain the 12th and final berth in the hurdles event.

She finished fourth in her heat and had to wait for the results of the final two heats to see if her effort was good enough to advance to Eugene.

Battling persistent and at times heavy rainfall throughout warm-up and into the competition, Iglesias registered a mark of 209-8 on his third and final qualifying throw to place eighth.
