The University of Akron baseball team rallied with two runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Toledo 3-2 on Friday at Mercy Field in Toledo.

The Zips (11-10, 4-0 Mid-American Conference) trailed 2-1 at the start of the ninth inning before Joey Havrilak singled up the middle to score James Sheltrown to tie the score. The Zips took a 3-2 lead after Kris Simonton scored from third base on a wild pitch. Matt Larocca had an RBI double, and Havrilak and Sheltrown each had two hits to lead the Zips.

ē?Freshman starting pitcher Eric Lauer gave up one run and struck out four through six innings to lead Kent State to a 10-2 win over Eastern Michigan on Friday in Ypsilanti.

Justin Wagler had three RBI, and Cody Koch had a two-run double to lead the Golden Flashes (13-9, 3-1 MAC).

Softball

Lauren Kesterson had two hits and two RBI, and Dani Ramos and Abbey Ledford each had two hits for Kent State in a 4-3 loss to Miami on Friday in Akron.

ē?The University of Akronís Friday doubleheader at Central Michigan was canceled and will not be made up.

Golf

Charlie Bull shot a 1-under-par 71, and the University of Akron menís team finished day one of the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C., in 12th place.

Bull is tied for eighth place individually and is 5 shots off the lead. J.B. Williams and Louis Birchall each shot a 1-over-par 73 to finish the day tied for 28th place, while Ryan Harris is 83rd and Zach Gollwitzer is in 96th place.
