• Wednesday — The Akron Sail & Power Squadron (ASPS) will offer several seven-week boating safety courses in the area. These classes are open to the public and satisfy Ohio’s Mandatory Boater Education Law that requires boaters born after Jan. 1, 1982, and who operate a boat over 10 hp, to obtain the Ohio Boater Education Card. The course manual is $35 and includes a six-month membership in the ASPS. The Feb. 3 course runs each Wednesday through March 16 at Copley High School, 3807 Ridgewood Road, Copley Township. • Feb. 8 — The Summit Sportsman’s Association meets the second Monday of each month, September through June, at the Polish-American Club, 472 E. Glenwood Ave., Akron. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to members, visitors and prospective members.

HUNTER ED

Those purchasing an Ohio hunting license for the first time must complete a hunter education course. Additionally, Ohio hunters seeking licenses in other states may be required to show proof they completed such a course. There is no charge. For more information, call 800-WILDLIFE.
