announces baby’s birth

• Go ahead and add another title to Serena Williams’ collection: Mom. The tennis star announced via social media on Wednesday that she gave birth to a girl named Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. Williams posted about her baby on Instagram and Twitter accounts and is heard saying in a video, “We had a lot of complications, but look what we’ve got.” The 35-year-old Williams said in late December that she was engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Williams wrote Wednesday that their daughter was born on Sept. 1 and weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces.

Day’s longtime coach is no longer his caddie

• Jason Day’s longtime coach is no longer his caddie. In a surprising move, Day said Wednesday he has parted ways with Colin Swatton for at least the rest of the year, though he will keep him as the only coach he has ever had.

• Former PGA Tour winner Sangmoon Bae has put his rifle away and replaced it with his golf clubs to play in his first professional tournament in more than two years. The South Korean will begin play Thursday in the Donghae Open. He was discharged from compulsory military service in August.

Kings’ Zach Randolph

gets community service

• Sacramento Kings forward Zach Randolph was sentenced to community service on Wednesday after being charged with marijuana possession and resisting arrest following an incident last month at a Los Angeles housing project, prosecutors said.

• Josh Richardson will go to Miami Heat training camp later this month with a new contract. Richardson and the Heat agreed on a four-year extension that could be worth $42 million, a person with knowledge of the agreement told the Associated Press.

• Atlanta Hawks forward DeAndre’ Bembry will miss at least a month with a strained right triceps and possibly the start of the regular season.

• The Utah Jazz signed Nate Wolters to a two-way contract. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard played for Crvena Zvezda in Serbia last season, where he averaged 8.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

UFC reinstates Cormier after stripping Jones’ title

• The UFC stripped its light heavyweight title from Jon Jones for a third time and reinstated Daniel Cormier as the 205-pound champion after Jones’ latest failed doping test.

• Forward Vernon Fiddler is retiring from the NHL after playing 877 games over 14 seasons in the league with four different teams.

• Los Angeles will host a third Olympics — in 2028. The news on Wednesday after a vote by the International Olympic Committee in Lima, Peru, was anticlimactic. Competing with Paris to win the 2024 Summer Games, Los Angeles was awarded 2028 while Paris will play host in 2024.
