Ti’eshia Stubbs scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Zips celebrated Senior Night with a 78-69 Mid-?American Conference win over the Bulls at Rhodes Arena on Tuesday.
The Zips (13-17, 7-9) clinched a home game in the first round of the MAC Tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday against an opponent to be determined.
UA trailed 41-35 at the end of the first half but rallied to outscore Buffalo (9-21, 4-12) 43-28 in the second half.
The Zips’ defense was the difference in the second half.
The Zips allowed five points the final seven minutes of the game and held the Bulls to 1-of-8 shooting from the floor during that time.
UA outrebounded Buffalo 51-37 and held a 19-12 edge in offensive rebounds.
The Zips shot 41.7 percent from the field and scored 25 points off 18 Bulls turnovers. The Zips’ reserves outscored the Bulls’ reserves 37-26.
Taylor Ruper and Hanna Luburgh each scored 17 points and Carly Young added 13 for the Zips. Luburgh had nine rebounds and Natasha Williams had eight assists.
Stubbs matched a career high with 18 points and notched her first double-double.
Brittney Hedderson scored 16 points and Nicki Hopkins added 14 to lead the Bulls.
