University of Akron redshirt junior Jordan Latimer placed 10th in the men’s long jump Sunday at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Latimer’s leap of 25 feet, 2.75 inches, wasn’t enough, however, to place him in the top eight to advance to the finals.

Former Zips track star Clayton Murphy, a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, captured the national outdoor title in the men’s 800 meters. Murphy, who was a two-time national champion while at UA, crossed the line in 1:46.50.

During competition Saturday, Zips track and field pole vaulter Matt Ludwig placed sixth in the nation with a vault of 18 feet, 6.5 inches.
