We have begun a new year and even though it is still the season for snow and ice, spring must not be far away.† How do we know? †The mails are full of plant and seed catalogs.† With that in mind, we the members of the Gardeners of Greater Akron (GOGA) would like you, your friends and anyone interested in healthy living, service to community, and peace-of-mind through gardening to become a member of our organization.† All persons interested in gardening and residing in the greater Akron area and surrounding communities are eligible for membership after submitting an application and paying annual dues of $35 for individuals or $60 for families.† The dues include membership in The Gardeners of America/Menís Garden Club of American and the Central Lakes Region Menís Garden Club. Members receive the GOGAís monthly newsletter, ďThe Garden Gabber" as well as publications from the Central Great Lakes Gardeners and the national TGOA/MGCA.

General membership meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 6:30pm with dinner being served shortly afterward.† There is a social hour beginning at 5:30pm. †The location is the St George Fellowship Centre located at 3204 Ridgewood Road, Copley, OH. †The cost of dinner, usually about $12 is payable at the door.† An interesting program always follows dinner.† Some of our previous programs have covered such topics as tomatoes, bumble bees, controlling weeds and lilacs. †During the year, we support several community service programs such as promotion of Youth Gardening for Akron area, gardening at Crouse Community Learning Center, Crown Point Ecology Center, and landscaping of Habitat for Humanity homes. †In May, we raise funds by selling a variety of plants at our annual Geranium sale.† At other times of the year we have a strawberry festival and covered dish picnic, and a holiday party. †There are also several annual area gardeners meetings and other events you can participate in as a member. †Our next meeting is January 14. †Please join us.
