Personal: Retired Army Col. Tim Gorrell, 55, and his wife, Lisa Tagsold Gorrell, are parents of two college-age daughters: Alexandra, 21, a student at the University of Kentucky; and Emma, 20, who attends Ohio University.

Favorite movies about veterans: Gorrell lists Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and Patton, saying that it’s not because they glorify war but because “they capture the essence of service and bind those who serve to a common cause — the guiding principles of which our country stands for in that it is above self and worth going into harm’s way to defend these principles.”
