Readers offer views?on ease of two products

If our reader mail is any indication, the TouCan can opener is a winner. The Rapid Ramen Cooker? Meh.

Diane Lakota of North Canton has arthritis in her hands and said opening a can is easy with the TouCan. Cleaning it is easy, too, she said, and she likes the notch for loosening jar lids.

“I liked it so much, I bought one for each of my sons

for Christmas,” she said.

Judy Morris of New Franklin was similarly enthusiastic, although she pointed out she sometimes needs to let the opener travel around the can twice. She bought a second one for camping and traveling.

Doug McClure of Medina wasn’t quite so pleased with the

Rapid Ramen Cooker.

His was a Valentine’s Day gift from his wife, said McClure, a self-described gadget lover who apparently is also a remarkably forbearing husband. It was simple to use, he said, but he prefers reusing the cup from a package of Maruchan Instant Lunch to nuke his ramen. That cup allows him to break up the noodles before he cooks them, the way he likes them.

“I suppose if one didn’t like a lot of broth (I do), then the Rapid Ramen cooker is OK,” he said. “And after all, it’s only $5.

I can take it or leave it.”
