The alleged killer of a 59-year-old man in Cleveland last year was arrested Wednesday in Akron.
Kurtis “Dirt” Fields, 33, faces charges of aggravated murder and a parole violation. He’s accused of killing William Everett Sr. on May 22 in Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. A warrant was issued in October for Fields’ arrest.
According to reports, Everett was found dead in his vehicle. He had been shot in the head.
The U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force on Wednesday announced marshals arrested Fields in the 1300 block of Nanaula Circle in Akron’s Goodyear Heights neighborhood. The arrest was made before dawn and without incident.
Marshals also discovered three loaded handguns under the bed of a 4-year-old in the home where Fields was arrested.
“This fugitive was dangerous and needed to be taken off the streets,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a news release. “Our team never gave up and continued to peruse every lead that came in, and it eventually paid off. The streets of Akron and Cleveland are safer with Kurtis Fields behind bars.”
