The Associated Press released its seventh weekly state football poll, and the 9-0 teams at Hudson and Canton Central Catholic are No. 1 in Division I and Division V, respectively.

This is Hudson’s first week at No. 1 in Division I after the host Explorers defeated previously top-ranked Mentor 41-27 last week.

CCC is No. 1 for the third week in a row in Division V.

Three area undefeated teams are ranked No. 3 in a poll: Aurora (Division III), Triway (Division IV) and Mogadore (Division VI).

Undefeated Nordonia is No. 5 in Division II and undefeated Crestwood is No. 7 in Division IV.

Elsewhere in Division III, Louisville is 11th and St. Vincent-St. Mary is 12th. Chippewa is 12th in Division V, while Hillsdale is 10th in Division VI and St. Thomas Aquinas 11th.

Computer rankings

A total of 24 area schools would be in the playoffs if they started today based on the computer rankings released by the OHSAA heading into Week 10.

The website, joeeitel.com, says that 14 of those teams have clinched a playoff spot, and that Hudson and Canton Central Catholic are guaranteed to host a first-round game.

Here is a look at the playoff picture for area teams scattered into seven divisions.

Division I

•?Region 1 — Clinched a spot: Hudson is No. 1 and Wadsworth is No. 9. In right now: Perry is 12th, Strongsville 14th and GlenOak 15th. Just outside top 16: Brunswick (17th), Jackson (19th) and Stow (20th).

Division II

•?Region 3 — In right now: Brecksville is No. 6.

•?Region 4 — Clinched a spot: Nordonia is No. 3 and Highland is No. 4. In right now: Massillon is fifth and Walsh Jesuit is eighth. Just outside top eight: Ellet (11th) and Lake (12th).

•?Region 5 — In right now: Wooster is No. 4.

Division III

•?Region 7 — Clinched a spot: Louisville is No. 2, Aurora No. 3, St. Vincent-St. Mary No. 4 and Tallmadge No. 5. Just outside top eight: Revere (10th), Buchtel (11th) and Archbishop Hoban (12th).

•?Region 8 — In right now: Buckeye is No. 6.

Division IV

•?Region 11 — Clinched a spot: Crestwood is No. 1 and Woodridge is No. 4. In right now: Field is No. 7. Just outside top eight: West Branch (10th).

•?Region 12 — Clinched a spot: Triway is No. 1.

Division V

•?Region 15 — Clinched a spot: Canton Central Catholic is No. 1. Just outside top eight: Black River (11th).

•?Region 16 — In right now: Chippewa is No. 5. Just outside the top eight: Norwayne (11th).

Division VI

•?Region 19 — Clinched a spot: Mogadore is No. 3 and Hillsdale is No. 6. Just outside top eight: St. Thomas Aquinas (ninth) and Smithville (11th).

Division VII

No area team is in the playoff hunt.

Hudson boys advance

The Hudson boys soccer team advanced to a Division I regional final with a 4-2 victory over Shaker Heights Wednesday at Revere.

Hudson coach Kelsey Resnick said senior Jack Sullivan scored two goals. Seniors Dan Brady and Colton Rowell also each netted a goal for the Explorers.

Sophomore Alex Vuksta and senior Daniel Fetsko both had an assist for Hudson. Shaker Heights ended its season at 15-4-1.

Hudson (15-3-2) will play Cleveland St. Ignatius (17-2-1) in the regional final at 4 p.m. Saturday at Rocky River High School. St. Ignatius beat Jackson 4-0 on Wednesday.

CVCA, Marlington win

Juniors Luke Fraley and Gino Finelli each scored a goal to guide the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy boys soccer team to a 2-0 win over University School in a Division II regional semifinal Wednesday in Hudson.

CVCA is 13-2-3 under first-year coach Angelo Finelli. Angelo is Gino’s older brother. University School concluded its season at 16-1-3.

CVCA will meet Marlington (12-7-1) in a Division II regional final at noon Saturday at Art Wright Stadium in Wadsworth. Marlington secured a 2-1 victory over Poland Seminary (13-4-4) in double overtime Wednesday at Wadsworth. Zack Zigler and Austin Wade each scored a goal and Tyler Lallie had an assist for the Dukes.
