The 29th annual William Heichel Memorial Plain Rotary All-Star Classic is set for Wednesday night at Malone University.

Event organizer David Kraft said the basketball event pits girls’ and boys’ all-star teams inside Osborne Hall. Players from Stark, Summit, Portage and Medina counties are scheduled to participate.

The girls’ all-star game will start at 6:30 p.m., and the boys’ all-star game will start at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 at the door and good for both games.

Advanced tickets are available for $5 by contacting Kraft at 330-455-9489. All proceeds go to scholarships for high school students and funding of community projects.

Hamrick’s debut

•?Freshman baseball player Mike Hamrick hit two home runs and finished with five RBI in Nordonia’s season opener, a 7-3 victory over Connellsville, Pa., on Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Hamrick hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and a grand slam in the fifth inning. Kyle Seither struck out eight and pitched a complete game to earn the win.

•?The Manchester softball team opened the season with a 15-11 win over Carlisle on Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Maddy McVaney had four hits and four runs batted in for the Panthers, and Erika Bell totaled three hits and two RBI.

•?Archbishop Hoban opened up its baseball season on Saturday with a 4-2 win over host Lakewood St. Edward. Ben Lefebvre and Jaret Corwin both had two hits for Hoban, and Grant Kersh batted in two runs. Knights pitchers Clay Sukys, Daniel Noe, Logan Harding and Blake Baldwin combined to limit the Eagles to six hits.

•?Walsh Jesuit won its baseball opener 12-1 in six innings over host Youngstown Ursuline on Saturday. Jace Burke pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts, and had two hits and scored one run. The Warriors also received three hits and three runs scored from Nate Stahl and two hits and three RBI from Alex Weitman.

•?Trent Harrell went 6-for-9 at bat with two home runs, 10 RBI and five runs scored to lead Chippewa to a doubleheader sweep over host Sandy Valley on Saturday. The Chipps won 13-9 and 18-3. Harrell hit a home run and had five RBI in each game.
