CLEVELAND: Nick Swisher sat out Tuesday night’s game with soreness in his left shoulder.

“It’s been nagging him a little,” Indians manager Terry Francona said. “We’ve been playing the heck out of him. I wouldn’t be shocked if I he got tomorrow off.”

That would give Swisher three days to rest the shoulder (including an off day Thursday), which might be feeling the effects of playing right field and first base.

“Probably that’s what happened,” Francona said. “That’s why I’ve hesitated doing it at times.”

Francona thinks the soreness also is affecting Swisher’s swing. Over his past seven games, Swisher is batting .154 (4-for-26).

BOURN REPORT — Michael Bourn (right index-finger cut) definitely will go on a rehab assignment once the soreness in his finger has subsided to the point where it does not affect his throwing or his swing.

“When he feels ready,” Francona said, “he’ll go out and play a couple of games.”
