A manís neighbor shot a suspected burglar, prompting police to arrive and find a small marijuana grow operation and cocaine inside.

The burglary took place Monday afternoon in the 2200 block of Maryland Avenue. The neighbor told police he heard someone forcing his way inside an adjoining apartment and went to investigate.

The neighbor, armed with a gun, confronted the burglar and fired a single shot. The burglar fled.

Akron officers were called to the apartment and were allowed inside. Police then found the gun used in the shooting and shell casings inside and outside of the apartment. Officers also found the marijuana grow operation inside a furnace room and cocaine and digital scales in the back bedroom.

Clifford T. Dunston, 22, was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. Also charged was Jacob A. Jordan, 20. He is accused of drug abuse marijuana and illegal manufacturing of marijuana.

Detectives are trying to determine if a 26-year-old man shot earlier in the day is connected to the burglary.

The 26-year-old victim was dropped off Monday afternoon at Akron General Medical Center. He was shot once in the thigh and abdomen, however, his injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

The victim told police he was shot while on the western side of Akron. He was driven to the hospital by a man driving a white Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck with a black stripe down the side, a gray bed cap and gray primer on the hood.
