The Akron-Summit County Public Library has a deal in place to open a satellite branch in the Tri-County Plaza in Lakemore.

The board of directors has approved a seven-year lease agreement with the property owner.

“We’re looking forward to getting started with our expanded service to that community,” library Executive Director David Jennings said Wednesday.

“This was one of the promises that we made in our levy campaign in 2015 and we’re keeping that promise.”

The Tri-County Plaza strip mall is located at 1500 Canton Road and already houses a J.C. Penney and Tractor Supply Co.

The library will be next door to the Tractor Supply in a 4,500-square-foot space.

The satellite location will house a wide variety of materials, including books, DVDs, magazines and compact discs. There also will be free wi-fi and computers for public use, along with space for community meetings and library programs.

Jennings expects the site to open around Dec. 1.

Mayor Rick Justice said the library is great for the village and should help attract even more people to the plaza.

“We’re thrilled,” he said. “It’s just another step in the right direction for the community and the plaza.”

The lease calls for the library system to pay $52,000 a year in rent the first three years, and $57,000 for the next four years.

“We’re very excited about it,” Jennings said. “The community has been asking about this for many years.”
