Akron police began a 12-week ticketing campaign targeting children on Monday — but not to worry, they’re not in any trouble.
Instead, the “Positive Ticketing” campaign is rewarding children for good behavior with coupon “tickets” for free ice cream cones at local McDonald’s locations. The tickets were donated by Rubber City McDonald’s.
Children might be rewarded for trying to reduce violence, being helpful or courteous, using crosswalks, wearing bicycle helmets, picking up litter or a variety of other positive behaviors.
The goal of the program is for police to develop a rapport with Akron youth and encourage children to be lawful and helpful.
In addition to positive tickets, police will give away a bicycle through a weekly drawing. The bikes were donated by Elves and More of Northeast Ohio.
