STOW: Police reported shortly before noon Thursday that a Highway Patrol trooper found a missing 84-year-old man safe and unharmed near Marietta.

Authorities had issued a missing adult alert for Robert Peel, who suffers from dementia.

He left Emeritus, an adult-care facility at 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Ohio Attorney’s Endangered Missing Adults Website and Stow police.

He was seen leaving the Fishcreed Road facility in a 1999 red Nissan Altima.

Peet used his credit card near the Ohio state line and Painesville at 2:30 a.m. to purchase fuel, Stow police said.

Roadside message boards were used to display the alert.
