An elderly woman died early Wednesday after a fire broke out inside her Brunswick townhouse.

Authorities said the victim is 78-year-old Delia Kuzda.

Firefighters said the woman was partially disabled and died after being trapped inside a bathroom of her townhouse at 4699 Doral Drive.

The fire was discovered about 4:45 a.m. and firefighters responded to the townhouse complex located near state Route 303 and Neura Park.

The residence was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Firefighters evacuated nearby residents and subsequently found the woman.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Brunswick firefighters and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

The townhouse contains six units. Flames destroyed Kuzda’s home and there was water and smoke damage to a neighboring unit. Damage is estimated at $250,000.

Firefighters from Valley City, Strongsville and Brunswick Hills, Medina, and Hinckley townships assisted Brunswick firefighters.
