MANSFIELD: The chairman of the Ohio House natural resources committee reviewing concerns about gas drilling says lawmakers will consider ways to limit the depth and pressure of wells used to inject drilling wastewater into the earth for disposal.
Republican state Rep. David Hall of Millersburg spoke Saturday at a forum in Mansfield, where two injection wells are planned. Officials there became increasingly worried about the wells after minor earthquakes near Youngstown raised concerns about an injection well in that area.
The Mansfield News Journal reports Hall defended the industry’s potential economic benefits for Ohio but said lawmakers will review ways to prevent crews from drilling too far and hitting deep rock formations.
He says they’ll also consider the maximum pressures drillers can use and how much material can be injected.
