COLUMBUS: Disaster response officials have been encouraging Ohio schools, businesses and others to participate in the statewide tornado drill planned Wednesday morning.
Sirens will sound throughout the state during the drill. Itís scheduled to begin at 9:50 a.m.
Gov. John Kasich urged Ohioans to practice their safety plans during the tornado drill when he signed a resolution declaring this week as Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Ohio already has experienced damaging tornadoes this year. National Weather Service teams said five tornadoes hit southwest Ohio early this month during storms that clobbered an Ohio River village and were blamed for four deaths in the state. Two weak tornadoes briefly touched down in the region last weekend, causing some damage to buildings but no serious injuries.
