The United Way of Summit County Volunteer Center recruits and refers volunteers to area nonprofit organizations and other groups required to incorporate volunteer programs for accreditation status. The following organizations need volunteers. For details about these and other volunteer opportunities, contact the Volunteer Center, 90 N. Akron Public Schools: Volunteers needed to assist with outdoor maintenance such as planting flowers and cleanup.
Alliance for Healthy Youth: Seeking high school volunteers to participate in C.A.T.S. peer education public speaking opportunities to advocate for healthy lifestyle choices and to avoid risky behaviors. Minimum age: 16; maximum age: 18.
Autism Society of Ohio Greater Akron Office: Seeking volunteers to help with the Akron Walks for Autism, a walk and 5K run at Lock 3 Park in Akron. Assistance with registration needed 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 8 and with a variety of needs on event day from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 9. Minimum age: 18; 16 with adult supervision.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve: Volunteers needed to assist with annual kickball tournament. There are several assignments available from set up and check in to serving as a referee or bracket manager. Minimum age: 16; 14 with adult supervision.
CASA/GAL Program of Summit County: Volunteer child advocates needed to independently investigate and monitor cases of abuse, neglect and/or dependency. Thirty-two-hour training program offered. Two-year commitment. Minimum age: 21.
Christian Fellowship Basketball League: Volunteers needed noon to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays to assist with event planning and programming for youth ages 7-18. Minimum age: 16; 12 with adult supervision. Also seeking volunteers to serve on the agency’s board of directors. Minimum age: 18.
Crown Point Ecology Center: Seeking volunteer to assist with Summer Farm and Science Camp (SFSC) June 11-Aug. 10. Volunteers may choose their activities of preference which include: children’s gardening, children’s cooking, children’s hiking and general summer camp assistant.
First Tee of Akron: Volunteers needed 2:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for a minimum of one day a week for eight weeks (September-October and/or April-May) to assist with SNAG, a golf program for children grades 1-5. Minimum age: 18.
Goodwill Industries of Akron: Volunteers needed weekdays and evenings as well as Sundays to read printed materials on radio broadcast to visually impaired/physically disabled individuals. Minimum age: 18.
Info Line Inc.: Volunteers needed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 8 to assist with Project Homeless Connect, a communitywide one-stop shop for delivering services to people experiencing homelessness. Minimum age: 18.
Mature Services Inc.: Volunteers are needed to present nutrition and physical activity lessons at CATCH Kids Club, a summer program at Edgewood Village and after school at Cascade Village. Volunteers must attend a free, but required training session from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5 conducted by the Summit County Health District. Minimum age: 21.
Mobile Meals: Volunteers needed twice a month to provide grocery shopping services for homebound individuals. Minimum age: 18; younger with adult supervision.
National MS Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter: Volunteers needed from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesdays to assist with craft classes. Minimum age: 18.
Pain Into Power: Female volunteers needed between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays to assist with answering phones and other office/clerical needs. Minimum age: 18.
Salvation Army of Summit County: A team of volunteers will be needed on 7 a.m. June 15 to assemble and pack lunches for United Way Day of Action volunteers. Lunches will be assembled, boxed and organized in the kitchen facility at the Salvation Army. Minimum age: 14.
Stewart’s Caring Place: Volunteers needed to assist with annual Hope Walk on May 12. Volunteers will assist with registration, cleanup, and T-shirt, food and water distribution. Minimum age: 15.
YMCA Voris Community Learning Center: Volunteers needed 3-5 p.m. weekdays to assist with office/clerical activities two hours per week/two hours overall per month. Minimum age: 18.
