The yet-unindicted war criminal and still enemy of the state, Dick Cheney...is famous for coming up with the "1% doctrine" in November, 2001.
1% doctrine origination: "If there's a 1% chance that Pakistani scientists are helping al-Qaeda build or develop a nuclear weapon, we have to treat it as a certainty in terms of our response. It's not about our analysis ... It's about our response."
During all of 2002 and up until the unprovoked, unilateral act of military aggression began against Iraq beginning in March 2003 , ....when the Bushies were deceiving the American people and Congress into believing Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat to America, ....the 1% doctrine was often spouted by Bush officials, even if the exact words "1% doctrine" were not used.
Cheney's point....other than justifying whatever it was he wanted to do....was that if there were even a slim, fractional chance that something COULD happen, then the nation must respond as if it has already happened, and respond offensively as if it has already happened. For example: if there were only a tiny possibility that Saddam had WMD's....then the U.S. had to pre-emptively attack Iraq to protect against the very, very tiny chance that Saddam would use those WMD against us,....you know, if he had WMD.
Yesterday, at the gun regulations hearings on Capitol Hill, I once again heard the declaration of Cheney's 1% doctrine. Independent Women's Forum spokesperson, Gayle Trotter, was asked if banning semi-automatic AR-15's would "disproportionately burden women".....a WTF question if I ever heard one. But here is what Ms. Trotter said....
"Young women are speaking out as to why AR-15 weapons are their weapon of choice," Trotter explained. "The guns are accurate. They have good handling. They're light. They're easy for women to hold."
She added: "And most importantly, their appearance. An assault weapon in the hands of a young woman defending her babies in her home becomes a defense weapon, and the peace of mind that a woman has as she's facing three, four, five violent attackers, intruders in her home, with her children screaming in the background, the peace of mind that she has knowing that she has a scary-looking gun gives her more courage when she's fighting hardened, violent criminals."
Who knew, right? The military-looking AR-15, semi-automatic is the preferred gun of women, or single moms, or something. Ms. Trotter explained that the AR-15 is "scary looking", giving a single woman "courage when she is fighting hardened, violent criminals." Not simply violent criminals....but hardened, violent criminals.
But it's the scenario Ms. Trotter describes which is my focus today. The 1% scenario.
"..the peace of mind that a woman has as she's facing three, four, five violent attackers, intruders in her home,..."
You see, that COULD happen. Not a high probability, mind you, but it COULD happen.....and therefore, because there is a POSSIBILITY that 3, 4,or 5 hardened violent criminals COULD attack a single mother's home.....then, that possibility, alone, justifies the necessity of maintaining the legal right to own a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle or comparable.
However.....it is also a possibility that a single mother COULD be attacked by even more than 5 hardened, violent criminals, right? I mean, it's possible. Let's say that the single mom is attacked by 150 hardened, violent criminals. Not likely, sure.....but hey, it COULD happen. Wouldn't the single mother actually need a fully automatic, 800-1000 round-firing per minute weapon to defend herself? And shouldn't the 2nd amendment be interpreted to allow for this extremely narrow possibility? If not....why not?
Obviously, my point here is that almost anything CAN happen. Perhaps, because there is always a possibly that anything can happen, we should build a very large and expensive anti-asteroid weapon.....costing trillions.....JUST IN CASE a huge asteroid threatens to enter the earth's gravitational pull. Even if many American children and the elderly had to starve to death so that our nation could afford to build this anti-asteroid weapon....how could we not build it if there was even a tiny, tiny, chance of an asteroid striking the earth?
Since 9-11, and with the help of deviant monsters like Dick Cheney, Americans have been trained to fear virtually anything. It's as if Cheney's wicked deception to gain approval to attack the sovereign nation of Iraq has permeated the water supply. The "what if THIS happens" scary scenario spinning has reached silly and embarrassing levels.
To all those who support the fear-thinking of Dick Cheney and Gayle Trotter....the 1% dangerous-scenario doctrine....let me offer this: every day a very small percentage of humans die simply from getting out of bed. If we apply the Cheney-Trotter doctrine to this "scary" threat.....all humans, for their own security's sake, should stay in bed all day....every day. After all, if there is the slightest chance that something bad MIGHT happen to you or others, then it should be treated as if that chance is reality.
And we still call ourselves the home of the brave.
