Wine is meant to be enjoyed with friends, family and special people in your life.

Winemaker Michael Pozzan crafts each of his wines to honor a member of his family. His $15.99 Giapoza cabernet is named after his granddaughter. (You won't find a better cab at that price.) Sailor's Grave cabernet is an homage to his late father, Byron Pozzan, who was a Merchant Marine. The tattoos on the label are a tapestry of Byron's worldly adventures and experiences. The wine inside is a wonderful tribute to the man.

I have been a fan of this wine for a number of years. It has been exceptional from vintage to vintage. Meeting Pozzan and hearing the story of his father makes me like it even more.

The grapes come from choice Napa vineyards in the Oakville, Yountville and Coombsville appellations. A beautiful ruby color pours into your glass and is followed by chocolate and berry puree nuances. A hunk of Piave cheese and a few Kalamata olives are perfect. Out of this world with toasted hazelnut and arugula salad. Grilled lamb chops, too!

With Veterans Day approaching, I encourage you to share a bottle of Sailor's Grave and toast the special veteran in your life.
