QUICK TAKE

"Schindler's List" is returning to movie theaters nationwide for a 25th anniversary re-release.

Heroic tale: The acclaimed film from 1993 has been remastered with a new sound mix. Directed by Steven Spielberg, who shot in black and white to give it a documentary feel, it recounts the exploits of industrialist and Nazi party member Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), who helped save more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust.

Academy Awards: The film, based on the book by Thomas Keneally, was nominated for 12 Oscars and won seven, including best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay (Steven Zaillian) and best original score (John Williams).

Great cast: The film also featured excellent performances by Neeson, Ben Kingsley as Schindler's accountant Itzhak Stern and Ralph Fiennes as sadistic SS officer Amon Goeth. Neeson and Fiennes were both nominated for Oscars in the leading and supporting categories, but both lost to Tom Hanks (for "Philadelphia") and Tommy Lee Jones (for "The Fugitive"), respectively.
