See holiday classic on stage: Cleveland Play House's stage version of the much-loved "A Christmas Story" isn't a carbon copy of the movie, and that's a good thing. It hits all your favorite highlights — the Major Award, the flagpole, Scut Farkas, that Red Ryder air rifle — while adding some different wrinkles, including an adult Ralphie on stage who narrates the tale. It runs through Dec. 23 at the Allen Theatre in Playhouse Square. Tickets are $25-$97 at 216-241-6000, www.clevelandplayhouse.com.

Have a magical night: Also at Playhouse Square, “A Magical Cirque Christmas” celebrates the holiday with magic, circus acts and music at 7:30 p.m. at the State Theatre. Tickets are $10-$85 at 216-241-6000 or www.playhousesquare.org.
