QUICK TAKE

Rumors are rampant that the fifth season of the ambitious sci-fi series "Black Mirror" will drop on Netflix this weekend.

For the uninitiated: "Black Mirror" is the creation of British writer/producer Charlie Brooker. It's set in the near future and riffs on various aspects of how technology pervades and invades our lives. It has drawn comparisons to "The Twilight Zone" because of its anthology format and its delicious twists. Although each episode is self-contained, it pays to watch them in order, so you'll notice all the many nods to previous episodes. Entire websites are devoted to cataloging these "Easter eggs."

We don't want to spoil anything ... but if you're getting into the series for the first time, be warned that the very first episode of season 1 is played for maximum shock value. Most of the others are, shall we say, more subtle. But it's definitely not for kids. (The season 4 opener is an absolutely brilliant take on sci-fi fanboy culture.)

What do we know? As usual, not much information has leaked about season 5. Miley Cyrus confirmed to Howard Stern that she appears in one episode. There are rumors of a "choose your own adventure" format. And the title of one episode, according to a now-deleted tweet, will carry the Lewis Carroll-inspired title "Bandersnatch."
