QUICK TAKE

Who doesn't like a good Agatha Christie mystery?

New series: A new mini-series — "Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders" — debuts Friday on Amazon Prime. It features one of her most intriguing creations, fastidious Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.

Poirot power: The detective has been played memorably over the years by Albert Finney ("Murder on the Orient Express"), Peter Ustinov ("Death on the Nile") and Kenneth Branagh (the "Orient Express" remake). Now it's John Malkovich's turn to chew scenery and solve curious crimes. Poirot is dispatched to England in 1933 to chase down a serial killer, who has thus far chosen his or her victims alphabetically.

Other attempts: Christie's book was first published in 1936. There was a British TV version in 1992 starring David Suchet and, oddly, a movie comedy version in 1965 with Tony Randall as Poirot and Anita Ekberg as Amanda Beatrice Cross.
