Antonio Engler, exchange student from Germany, spoke to the Lions meeting on May 14. The 16-year-old has spent the past school year with Dennis and Deanna Morgan through the Forte International Exchange Association. Although Engler will not get credit for her school year here, she enjoyed improving her English while getting to play soccer and softball and attending activities such as prom, which are not part of high school in her home of Hamburg, Germany, where she lives with her parents and brother who also was an exchange student in North Dakota. Her parents originally came from Poland, so English is actually her third language. When she returns home she will complete high school and then hopes to attend college, with an emphasis on criminal justice or law.

The Lions received a thank-you note from the prom committee for use of their walk-in cooler for storage of drinks before the prom.

Lions Jeff Frankford and Annette Gorrell volunteered to help cook for the Drug Free Club cookout on May 17. The Lions allowed the Girl Scouts to use their grill during the Scouts’ bridging ceremony at the Lions building on May 19.

President Jan Abee, Treasurer Dave Hunter and Secretary Ron Lutz attended officer training in Ashland on May 4. Loudonville and Perrysville Lions will jointly host the zone meeting on Nov. 13. First Vice District Governor Kerry Parker will visit our club on September 24, and District Governor Kenny Schuck will visit on January 14.

Leo Advisor Jeff Frankford indicated the Leos plan to update the basketball goals at the high school. Lions will donate bags of concrete to complete this project.

Past District Governor Carolyn Brook will induct new Lions officers during their last meeting of the season on May 28. Several awards also will be presented.

The Lions annual Memorial Day chicken barbecue will take place on Saturday, May 25, in Central Park during the Arts & Crafts Festival. A cruise-in will be hosted by Jeff Frankford at the Lions building on June 14, 5-8 p.m. The next monthly fish fry will be Friday, June 21. A second chicken barbecue will be July 6. Lions will serve breakfast to MPP retirees on July 24.
