has surgery after fall

Allman Brothers Band founding member Dickey Betts has had successful surgery after slipping and hitting his head while playing with his dog in Sarasota, Fla.

The Dickey Betts website said the "Ramblin' Man" and "Blue Sky" singer-songwriter and guitarist underwent surgery Friday to relieve swelling on his brain.

A statement posted Saturday from Betts and his family said the "outpouring of support from all over the world has been overwhelming and amazing. We are so appreciative."

Betts had a mild stroke last month.

Danny DeVito honored

at Spain film fest

Actor Danny DeVito was honored with a lifetime achievement award at Spain's most prestigious film festival in the northern coastal city of San Sebastian.

DeVito, 73, got the award from the San Sebastian International Film Festival on Saturday, where he is promoting the animated children's film "Smallfoot."

DeVito won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role in the 1970-80's TV sitcom series "Taxi." Other career highlights include the hit 1980s films "Throw Momma from the Train" and "Twins." He currently stars in the TV series "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
