Ward 4 Councilman Russ Neal will host a public forum 6:30 tonight at the Lawton Street Community Center, 1220 Lawton St., to provide an update on issues surrounding gun violence and other crimes committed at or near Open Pantry convenience store on Copley Avenue.

The establishment has been a lightning rod for unrest, prompting Councilwoman Tara Samples, who represents South and East Akron and part of downtown, to call for the owner to close the store. Neal has said the issue needs a community-based solution as the many of the calls for police help have come from the workers at the store.

At the meeting Tuesday night, Neal said, “information will be shared relating to action taken, as well as planned action steps on behalf of the store, Akron Police Department, the City of Akron and the Ward 4 community.”
