Unemployment rates dipped last month in Summit County and across the region.

The county's jobless rate hit 4.4 percent in August, down from 4.9 percent in July and 5.2 percent in August 2017, according to figures released Tuesday by the state.

Rates fell in Summit County's two largest cities.

Akron's unemployment rate last month fell to 5.1 percent, down from 5.3 percent in May and 5.9 percent a year ago.

The unemployment rate in Cuyahoga Falls in August was 4.2 percent, down from 4.5 percent in May and 4.7 percent a year ago.

State figures show that there were 260,700 employed last month in Summit County, with 12,000 listed as unemployed.

The statewide jobless rate in August was 4.5 percent, down from 4.9 percent in July and 5.1 percent in August 2017.
