Ho, ho, ho! Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. is getting into the Christmas spirit early with the Oct. 12 release of its popular 12 Dogs of Christmas and Barrel Aged 12 Dogs of Christmas.

The brewery -- which has locations in Akron and Cleveland -- also will use the opportunity to raise money for One of a Kind Pet Rescue in Akron and the the Friends of the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter in Valley View.

The Thirsty Dog Taphouse, 587 Grant St., Akron, will tap 12 Dogs at 12:25 p.m. The event will include photos with Santa from 1 to 4 p.m. and 12 rescue dogs from One of a Kind. One dollar from each pint sold will go to One of a Kind.

Meanwhile, the Thirsty Dog East Bank, 1075 Old River Road, Cleveland, will tap 12 Dogs at 3 p.m. The event will include photos with Santa from 4 to 7 p.m. and dogs from the Friends of the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter. One dollar from each pint sold from 5 to 6 p.m. will go to the Friends group. A disc jockey also will play Christmas tunes all day.

Both locations also will be selling hot dogs for $1.

Thirsty Dog traditionally releases the beer during Cleveland Beer Week, which kicks off Oct. 12 this year.

The brewery has been making 12 Dogs for 11 years.

"It continues to grow [in popularity]," Thirsty Dog co-owner John Najeway said.

In addition to draft, 12 Dogs will be available in six-packs for $11.99, with the barrel-aged version being sold in four-packs for $24.
