The Akron man who was shot and killed over the weekend has been identified as Leon Portis Jr.
Leon Portis Sr., 75, his father, was charged with murder Sunday and booked into the Summit County Jail.
Police responded to the 1000 block of Silvercrest Avenue in the Kenmore neighborhood shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday. They found the younger Portis, 45, laying in the driveway with a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
The father told police he was in an altercation with his son before he shot him. Officers recovered a gun at the scene, police say.
The father and son lived together, according to a police report.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy Tuesday.
