WESTFIELD TWP. — A Lodi man was killed and another man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 8:39 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and Friendsville Road.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash and neither driver was wearing a seat belt, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Jeffrey D. McElwain, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was driving a 2015 Ford F-150 westbound on Route 224 and collided with a northbound Dodge Ram driven by Harland Hall, 22, of Lodi, the patrol said. Both vehicles traveled off the north side of the road, with the Dodge Ram overturning onto its roof and striking a traffic light pole.

Hall was treated at Lodi Hospital and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
