Ohio auditor candidate Zack Space has returned home in the waning days of the campaign to be with his mother, whose health is failing. Space, a former congressman, was scheduled to visit Cleveland on Saturday with other Democrats running statewide to appear with former Vice President Joe Biden.
"My mother, Sandra Space, has been transferred to hospice care in Dover, Ohio, following an extended period of assisted living care," Space said in a statement. "Our family has gathered to comfort her at this difficult time.
"While it pains me to be temporarily absent from the campaign trail, I am with the rest of the Democratic ticket in spirit and looking forward to victory on Tuesday. My family asks for privacy during this time and we appreciate the many prayers and kind sentiments that have been sent our way over the past few days."
Space is running against Ohio Rep. Keith Faber, R-Celina.
