DOVER — We can only guess what it was trying to reach.
A raccoon found itself in an awkward predicament after it got its head stuck in a storm sewer drain Thursday morning in the 300 block of E. Iron Avenue in Dover. A resident spotted the raccoon while taking out the trash and called Dover police at 7:49 a.m.
Dover Police Capt. Jimmy Hitchcock and officer Danielle Nicewander came to the animal’s rescue. They pulled the storm sewer grate out, and then the stuck raccoon was able to free itself.
Employees of the Dover General Services Department were called to assist, but the raccoon was free before they arrived on the scene.
