Summit Mall will hold its first-ever Community Tree Lighting on Saturday at the roundabout at the mall’s main entrance.
The activities will begin at 3 p.m. and culminate at 6 p.m. with the arrival of Santa Claus on a Fairlawn fire truck. Santa will then light a 30-foot Christmas tree in the roundabout. Other activities include games, crafts, an “Elfie Selfie” station, food vendors, carolers, local choirs and dance companies. Keys will be given out for one of three prize boxes stuffed with items donated by mall tenants, each valued at $650 to $800.
The mall also is collecting items to fill holiday stockings for needy children in the Akron area through the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve. The children range from age 6 to 18 and the needed items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, lip balm, deodorant, art supplies, clothing and toys. A complete list is available at the mall management office, located to the left of the Dillard’s entrance near the Santa set.
Items can be donated on the day of the tree lighting event from 3 to 7 p.m. in the food court or during normal mall hours until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the mall office.
