Akron police are investigating four robberies and thefts from businesses over the weekend, including two incidents at the same drugstore on the same day.
The first incident was at about 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Rite Aid drugstore at 1047 Kenmore Blvd. Employees said a man entered the store, jumped over the counter and demanded money from the register. When the employee refused, the man jumped back over the counter and fled without getting anything, police say.
Police say the suspect is a black male, 16 to 22 years old, about 6 feet tall and 160 to 170 pounds. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt over his face, black pants, light colored boots and blue latex gloves.
The second incident was at the same Rite Aid about 7 p.m. Friday. Officers responded to the store for a theft in progress. Before officers arrived, employees reported the suspect ran out the rear door of the store after getting into a physical altercation with an employee, police say.
Employees told police they saw the man stealing items and concealing them under his shirt. An employee asked the man to pull up his shirt several times and he refused while items fell out of his shirt. As the man tried to run out of the front of the store, he tried to punch the employee. An employee locked the front doors, police say.
An employee approached the man again and he pulled out a steel metal wire and stabbed the employee in the arm. He then ran to the rear door and fled. The employee suffered minor injuries.
Police say the suspect is a white male, 35 to 40 years old, 5 foot 10 inches to 6 feet tall and 200 to 220 pounds. He wore a black- and gray-striped hooded sweatshirt, black skull cap, dark-colored pants and black shoes.
The third incident was about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tansations Tanning Salon, 1262 Kenmore Blvd. An employee said a man entered the store, pulled out a knife and demanded money from the register. The employee handed the man an unreported amount of cash and he fled out of the back door, police say.
Police say the man wore a black hat and had his face covered with a black cloth. He also wore a black jacket, black pants and black gloves.
Police think the same suspect may have been involved in the second incident at Rite Aid and the one at Tansations.
The last incident happened shortly after midnight Sunday when a delivery driver for Hungry Howie’s Pizza, located at 366 E. Waterloo Road, was robbed.
A delivery driver said she was delivering food in the 900 block of Barbara Avenue when four males with hooded sweatshirts pulled up over their faces rushed up to her. She said one pulled out a handgun and demanded her money and the food. Another suspect pushed her onto the ground and all of them fled, police say.
Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the detective bureau at 330-375-2490.
