RAVENNA — University Hospitals Portage Medical Center has donated automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the city police to equip patrol cars.

The eight AEDs are valued at $22,240.

"It's important for our police officers to have this lifesaving tool in their car due to the fact we are often first on the scene of a medical emergency and we can begin lifesaving measures until trained medical personal arrive," Chief Jeff Wallis wrote in a message on the police Facebook page.
