Investigators have identified a man who died in a one-vehicle crash on state Route 8 Friday night as Robert L. Heaton of Cuyahoga Falls.

Heaton, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened about 10:40 p.m. on Route 8 southbound at Second Street.

Falls police say Heaton struck a pole and the center median.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Summit Metro Crash Team responded to the scene.

The crash shut down the southbound lanes of Route 8 between Front Street and Graham Road for more than four hours. The highway reopened about 3 a.m. Saturday.

The medical examiner did an autopsy over the weekend and determined Heaton suffered severe head trauma. A cause of death will be determined after additional test results are received, according to an investigator.
