YOUNGSTOWN — The mother of five children who perished in a Dec. 9 blaze collapsed during the funeral for the children on Saturday, the Youngstown Vindicator reported.

After viewing was completed, the newspaper reported, Amy Negron Acevedo, 26, collapsed into the arms of a family member. She was comforted by family and the church's pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Simon.

Firefighters and family members were among those who gathered for the funeral services for the five children, who were killed in a fire at their home.

Saturday services for the children, who ranged in age from 1 to 9, were preceded by a two-hour visitation at New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown. The Vindicator reported that the church lobby was decorated with some of the stuffed animals left at the home to honor the children.

The newspaper reported the children's injured mother wept at the casket of the oldest child. The caskets of the three oldest children killed in the blaze were open, while that of the 1-year-old twins was closed.

Pastor Sylvia J. Luciano, pastor of Temple Pentecostal Jesus the Bread of Life Church, the family's church, officiated the Spanish part of the service.

Fire officials' investigation into the fire's cause continues. According to the Vindicator, more than $30,000 has been raised to help the family with funeral expenses.
