Akron police are investigating the apparent shooting death of a 29-year-old man found Christmas Eve in the city’s Sherbondy Hill neighborhood.

Police said the body of a black male, who was not named, was found Monday morning in a backyard off Edgewood Avenue. The man had gunshot wounds and there was no weapon on the scene, Akron police said.

Police were called about 9 a.m. by someone who found the body in the yard, Akron police said. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s office will do an autopsy Wednesday morning.

No other information was available.

Edgewood Avenue runs along the Akron Zoo between Euclid Avenue and Copley Road/South Maple Street.
