RICHFIELD — Police are investigating the apparent drowning death of a Cleveland man at a motel swimming pool Wednesday morning.
The incident happened just before 10 a.m. at the Days Inn on Brecksville Road.
According to Beacon Journal partner News 5 Cleveland, the man accidentally paddled into the deep end of the pool where he got into trouble and shouted for help. His family was at the pool, but they couldn't save him because none of them could swim, the television station reported.
A guest from a nearby hotel room heard the commotion and found the man at the bottom of the deep end of the pool, authorities told the television station. Staff pulled the man — who has not been publicly identified — out of the water and performed CPR, but it was too late.
