Here’s a guide to live Christmas tree disposal options throughout the area:

 

Summit County

Metro Parks: Trees cleaned of all decorations and tinsel may be dropped off for recycling through Jan. 31 at these locations: Little Turtle Pond at Firestone Metro Park, 2400 Harrington Road, Akron; Brushwood Area at Furnace Run Metro Park, 4955 Townsend Road, Richfield Township; main entrance (rear parking lot, near the sled hill) at Goodyear Heights Metro Park, 2077 Newton St., Akron;  Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park, South Main 2 Lot, 5531 S. Main St., Green; Treaty Line Area of Sand Run Metro Park, 995 Treaty Line Road, Akron; and Big Oak Area of Silver Creek Metro Park, 5199 Medina Line Road, Norton.

Visitors can look for signs that identify each drop-off area in the parking lots. The park district typically gets about 2,000 Christmas trees, which it turns into mulch and uses in the parks. For information, call 330-867-5511 or visit www.summitmetroparks.org.

Akron: Leave tree at the curb on regular trash day.

Barberton: Leave tree at curb on regular trash day.

Bath Township: Leave small trees with regular trash for pickup. Trees more than 4 feet tall must be cut and tied. There is also a tree recycling program through a grant from ReWorks. Zone One (north of Bath Road) pickup days are Thursday and Jan. 8. Zone Two (south of Bath Road and west of Interstate 77) pickup days are Jan. 2 and 10. Zone Three 9south of Bath Road and east of I-77) pickup days are Jan. 3 and 15. Place trees at the curb at 8 a.m. on assigned day. Trees must be less than 10 feet or cut in half. Also, residents who wish to recycle may drop off trees at 3879 Ira Road on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Boston Heights: Leave tree by the roadside on Mondays through January.

Copley Township: Leave tree at curb for pickup on regular trash days. For free recycling, leave at curb before 7 a.m. Jan 5 and 12.

Cuyahoga Falls: Leave tree at curb for pickup on regular trash days.

Fairlawn: Residents only may drop off trees at designated site near the Fairlawn compactor at 3294 Fairlawn Service Drive, off South Smith Road, any time.

Green: Place tree at curb on regular trash days, or leave out by 6 a.m. Jan. 5 and 12 for recycling. Residents also may take trees to the city’s recycling center, 5383 Massillon Road, from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Hudson: Leave tree at curbside by 8 a.m. Jan 6 for the first round of pickup and by Jan. 20 for the second round.

Macedonia: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days.

Mogadore: Residents should contact individual trash haulers.

Munroe Falls: Trees left at the curb will be picked up Jan. 11 and 18.

Northfield: Leave tee at curb on regular trash days.

Northfield Center Township: Leave tree at roadside on regular trash days, which are a day later than usual during holiday weeks.

Reminderville: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days.

Richfield: Leave tree at curb through January.

Richfield Township: Place on tree lawn through January.

Sagamore Hills Township: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days.

Silver Lake: Leave tree at curb for recycling Jan. 7-18.

Springfield Township: Residents are urged to dispose of trees at Metro Parks locations.

Stow: Take trees for recycling to Stow Community Gardens, 5070 Stow Road, starting Thursday until end of February, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trees will be chipped into mulch that will be made available free to Stow residents, first-come, first-served at a later date.

Twinsburg: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days through January. Tops should be cut off if tree is taller than 4 feet. Trees may also be left at a designated site at Liberty Park parking lot, 9999 Liberty Road, through Feb. 3 during daylight hours.

Stark County

Private haulers: A number of private haulers and landscaping companies will recycle trees. Some charge for the service. Residents should contact private haulers for instruction. Alliance: Trees should be cut and bundled in 4-foot pieces and left at curb on regular trash days.

Canal Fulton: Leave tree at the curb on Wednesdays during January.

Canton: Leave tree at curb for pickup on regular trash days.

Canton Township: Residents only may drop off trees at a site north of Township Hall, 4711 Central Ave. SE, until Jan. 6.

Lake Township: Drop off tree at the recycling station, 1505 Midway St. NW, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Lawrence Township: Leave tree at roadside through Jan. 11.

Louisville: Drop off tree at the Nimishillen Township garage, 4915 N. Nickelplate St., Nimishillen Township, at the north entrance closest to the railroad track Wednesdays and Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., until at least Jan. 10.

Marlboro Township: Drop off tree behind Township Hall, 7344 Edison St. NE, through January.

Massillon: Drop off tree next to the city garage, 401 Walnut Road SW, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Minerva: Leave tree on curb through early January.

Navarre: Leave tree on tree lawn through mid-January. Also, you may take trees to the garbage bin at the wastewater treatment plant on Hudson Drive from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, or 8:30 to 11 a.m. weekends and holidays.

Nimishillen Township: Drop off tree at the township garage, 4915 N. Nickelplate St., Nimishillen Township, at the north entrance closest to the railroad track Wednesdays and Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., until at least Jan. 10.

North Canton: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days. Tops should be cut off so trees are no taller than 5 feet.

Perry Township: Drop tree off at the Perry Road Department, 1500 Jackson Ave. SW, through Jan. 5.

Plain Township: Drop tree off at Fire Station No. 4, 2855 Easton St. NE, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturday.

 

Medina County

Countywide: Residents can take trees to the Medina County Recycling Center, 8700 Lake Road, Westfield Township, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays or 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Jan. 12 (closed New Year’s Day).

Brunswick: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days during first two weeks in January. If trees are taller than 4 feet, they should be cut in half.

Lodi: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days. Trees should be bundled in 4-foot sections, no more than 50 pounds.

Medina: Leave tree at curb through early January on regular trash pickup days.

Seville: Leave tree out on regular trash days through early January.

Wadsworth: Place tree at curb until mid-January.

 

Portage County

Aurora: Leave tree at curb on regular trash days. Trees taller than 4 feet should be cut in two.

Franklin Township: Leave at curb through first three weeks in January.

Garrettsville: Leave on the tree lawn during January.

Hiram: Leave by the roadside during January.

Kent: Leave at curb Jan. 7-18. Also, Kent residents can drop off trees at the yard-waste transfer site next to Plum Creek Park during daylight hours.

Mantua: Leave tree at curb. One free bulk pickup (including Christmas tree) is allowed per month.

Ravenna: Leave at curb through January.

Streetsboro: Leave tree at curb for pickup during the first week in January.
