A mail carrier was killed Wednesday afternoon in Wadsworth Township after his vehicle was struck from behind on state Route 94, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Randy L. Irwin, 59, of Macedonia, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Medina Highway Patrol post. He was partially thrown from his U.S Postal Service truck after it was hit from behind by a Dodge Caravan, police said.

The driver of the Dodge minivan, Danielle M. Ullman, 31, of Doylestown, had minor injuries and was treated at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital, police said.

Ullman was driving northbound on Route 94 when her vehicle hit the mail truck. The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. north of Eastern Road, police said.

Irwin was pulling into traffic when his truck was hit, causing it to overturn and go off the west side of the road, police said.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved, police said. Ullman was wearing a seatbelt while Irwin was not, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges had been filed as of Thursday morning.
