CANTON A man walked into the Canton Municipal Courthouse on Thursday morning armed with a .38 Special, but he wasn't arrested.

Police Capt. Dave Davis said the 63-year-old Garfield Heights man went to the courthouse to pay a traffic citation just before 9 a.m. Thursday.

The metal detectors just inside the courthouse entrance alerted police to the presence of the handgun, the police reports show.

The man, who holds a valid permit for carrying a concealed weapon, told police he had forgotten to remove it from his person before he walked into the courthouse, Davis said.

Police confiscated the gun and tagged it into evidence, and notified the prosecutor's office.

Davis said results of the investigation into the incident were forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review.

The man has not been charged.
