AKRON — Gov. John R. Kasich appointed Ann Marie O’Brien to serve on the Akron Municipal Court. She replaces Judge Kathryn Michael, who was elected to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas, according to a Court News Ohio report.

O’Brien will take office Jan. 15 and must run in the November 2019 election to keep the seat for the remainder of the unexpired term ending Jan. 1, 2024.

“I’m humbled by the governor’s appointment and I’m extraordinarily excited to be able to serve the public,” O’Brien said.

Prior to the appointment, she was an attorney for Emershaw, Mushkat, & Schneier, a judicial lawyer for the Summit County Court of Common Pleas, and a bailiff and law clerk for the Wayne County Court of Common Pleas.

O’Brien received her bachelor’s degree from Hiram College and law degree from the University of Akron.
